Coal oil density measurement method

Kerosene, also known as kerosene or kerosene, is a high boiling point hydrocarbon mixture with carbon atom numbers C11-C17. It belongs to the category of light petroleum distillate oil. At room temperature and pressure, the pure product is a colorless and transparent oily liquid. When it contains impurities, it appears light yellow with a slight odor. It has the characteristics of being slightly toxic, volatile, and flammable, and is easily soluble in water, alcohols, and other organic solvents. Its boiling range is 180-310 ℃, average molecular weight is between 200-250, relative density is 0.8-1.0, boiling point is 175-325 ℃, melting point is above -40 ℃, and kinematic viscosity is 1.0-2.0mm2/s at 40 ℃. There are mainly categories of aviation kerosene, civilian fuel kerosene, industrial solvent kerosene, etc., which are widely used in aerospace, mechanical processing, civilian heating, petroleum processing and other fields.

Objective of the experiment

Density is the core indicator for determining the quality and safety of kerosene. The composition of kerosene is complex, and the proportion of different fractions directly affects the basic properties of the oil. During storage, transportation, blending, and use, component changes are likely to occur, which in turn can alter the basic properties of the oil. This can easily lead to accidents in fuel injection, oil trade, and industrial combustion scenarios. Therefore, it is necessary to accurately detect the density of kerosene, define the qualified use range of kerosene, in order to avoid combustion failures, equipment losses, and fire safety issues caused by abnormal oil products; It can also standardize the refining production process and serve as a basis for converting oil volume and quality, ensuring accurate and fair transaction measurement.

Experimental Procedure

① Connect the power supply, check the status of the instrument, whether the sample and the utensils used are free of contamination

② Calibrate the instrument and place the sample according to the user manual

③ Set parameters, confirm operation, and the instrument automatically pumps samples for testing

④ The test is completed, the instrument displays the measurement results, and the experiment is repeated 1-3 times

⑤ Cleaning instruments and utensils used

Experimental results

Three experiments were conducted in total, with an average value of approximately 0.80g/cm ³. Considering that the density of kerosene fluctuates within the range of 0.78-0.85g/cm ³ in practice, it meets the standard.
